(DPS) — On Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at about 9:10 a.m., the Department of Public Safety received a report of a child abuse incident at a high school on Saipan. A forensic interview was conducted with the minor who confirmed that a close relative physically abused her just the day prior over money.
This case was reported to the department after a school counselor observed injuries on the minor. It was later revealed that it was caused by abuse.
Follow up investigation by police revealed that several injuries were recorded from the victim’s arms and leg, due to punches, pinching, biting, and hair-pulling; all done by the same relative. The minor child added that she would be deprived of eating a meal and forced to discard the food in the trash.
On May 12, 2022, at 4:43 p.m., Judge Teresa Kim-Tenorio signed and issued an arrest warrant for Rosel Imperial, for the charges of child abuse, assault and battery (domestic violence). Bail was set at $20,000.
On the same day mentioned above, Imperial was arrested and brought to Kanoa Resort for Covid-19 clearance, before being transported to the Department of Corrections to be detained.
This case is open and pending further investigation.
