The Yantai municipal government, by invitation of FSM President Emanuel Mori, is planning on sending a delegation to explore the FSM and find areas that the two sides can cooperate on.
Fisheries and aquaculture have been mentioned, but the two sides are optimistic to also explore other areas such as tourism, agriculture, renewable energy and infrastructure development.
Following the participation of Mori in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games in August of last year, he visited Shandong province where Yantai City was among his scheduled stops.
Mori encouraged and invited officials and private sector representatives from Shandong province to visit the FSM to explore areas of cooperation for mutual benefit.
Noting the importance of the sister city relationship that Shandong has with the FSM state of Kosrae, and to also renew this relationship, Kosrae State Sen. Bob Skilling joined Mori in extending the invitation.
The Chinese delegation has not yet confirmed its itinerary but the FSM Embassy in Beijing is working closely with the Yantai Municipal Foreign Affairs Office and all the relevant authorities in the FSM to facilitate and ensure a successful visit.
