MHS holds Cultural Day

“I felt like there’s uniqueness in how they exhibited culture and traditions this year,” she told Variety.

On Friday, parents and other members of the community joined MHS to cap the week-long Cultural Day celebration.

Some 120 visiting students from Seisa Gakuan School of Japan joined the celebration, Borja said.

“For many years our students have had the opportunity to create and experience strong bonds and cultural exchange between our two schools. This exchange program has inspired our students to share international peace and goodwill within our school community,” Borja said in her message.

More students participated in this year’s activities and programs, she added.

Besides the occasional rain, Borja said they did not encounter any major problems.

“We were in a very good spirit,” she said.

MHS students, through performances, depicted the cultures of Chuuk, Palau, the Marshalla and Tahiti.

The performers included the rifle drill team, fancy drill team, the Chamorro Club, the Chuukeese Girls, Camille Merrit, Garette Santos, RCC and the Maggie Naputi Band.

Borja said the cultural booths that sold traditional food items and other delicacies were a “hit” among the crowd.

In addition to the fundraising campaign of the MHS Community Council, visitors and students also participated in games and other wellness activities.
