Park Ranger Nancy Kelchner said the National Park Service will accommodate special school tours by appointment at American Memorial Park to generate awareness among schoolchildren on how they can help keep their environment safe and clean.
“We’re going to have a fun time this week,” Kelchner told the Variety. “We will discuss how one person can make a difference in their environment.”
The special school tours begin on Wednesday because the American Memorial Park Visitor Center is closed every Monday and Tuesday to cut power consumption.
Kelchner said former Vice Oresident Al Gore’s movie about climate change, “An Inconvenient Truth” will be shown from Wednesday through Friday at 3 p.m.
At 5 p.m. this Wednesday, the park has scheduled an evening family program about the importance of recycling materials.
The highlight of the weeklong celebration will be held on Saturday with National Park Service volunteers who will hold activities from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on crafts using recycled materials and a special movie for families.
Kelchner said there will be demonstrations on how to turn discarded or used bento boxes into treasure chests. Other household product containers will also be turned to useful items.
Kelchner said the public is welcome to attend the activities at the visitor center.
