Webinars on issues affecting Micronesia

(Press Release) — The Indigenous Pacific Islands Knowledge Universe Inc. or IPIKU is pleased to present “Future Strategies for a Sustainable Micronesia,” a virtual series of webinars that started on March 23, 2022 focused on very important issues impacting the region starting with the COP 26 Reflection that featured Micronesia’s delegates, international experts and, leaders from around the region.

Additional topics  include Climate Change as a National Security Issue (April 6, 2022) and Legal Rights of Nations in the face of Climate Change (April 20, 2022). All sessions are open to the public and those interested in attending can  register at https://ipiku.org/events

All web series will begin at 12 p.m. (RMI, UTC+12), 11 a.m. Pohnpei, 10 a.m. Guam/CNMI (ChST, KOST), 9 a.m. Palau (PWT).

Indigenous Pacific Islands Knowledge Universe Inc.  is a non-profit organization established in 2022 and chartered in Guam whose purpose is to serve the communities of the Pacific countries and territories, its citizens and residents preserve, protect and perpetuate Indigenous languages, cultures, traditions and proprietary knowledge.

 It aims to create a centralized virtual repository of Micronesian knowledge and traditions to include historical, current and ongoing research to stimulate future research amongst our people in the region.

Central to its mission, it intends to instill the Pacific Identity in the development of the Next Generation leadership through the involvement of young leaders in post conflict processes and conversations and training in the social, economic and political agenda.

Like the Pacific Ocean, members of IPIKU come from a vast range of experiences and expertise from the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the Republic of Palau, Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia (Chuuk, Pohnpei, Kosrae and Yap), and will include in the future members from Kiribati and Nauru.

Additional initiatives by IPIKU currently underway include a Traditional Medicine working group, research on the status of languages in Micronesia, projects focused on Economic Development and a Global Academic Partnership with academic institutions such as the University of Pittsburgh’s Global Studies Center.
