Eucon gets 5-year accreditation

“This is a very historical moment not only for Eucon but for CNMI as well,” said Dr. Christian Wei, the college president who was still in the U.S. attending a meeting with TRACS officials.

TRACS is a U.S Department of Education accrediting body.

In a teleconference yesterday, Wei said with the accreditation, Eucon’s credits are now accepted by the U.S. Department of Higher Education.

“When the students want to transfer to the states, their credits from Eucon will be accepted as well,” he said.

At present, the college is offering bachelor of science in education and bachelor of arts in Bible, both are four-year programs, and English as second language.

A TRACS team conducted its four-day site visit on Dec.  2-5, 2008.

Vilma Reyes, Eucon’s acting director of institutional effectiveness, said a TRACS team will again visit the college after five years for the reaffirmation of the college’s accreditation.

“We give all the glory to the Lord for His guidance and renewing strength to EUCON family,” she said. “We also would like to extend our appreciation to the faculty and staff that worked hard for the sleepless nights and holidays spent for this accomplishment, as well as the student body and alumni who participated in any means.”

She said Eucon began the application process in 2004 and was accepted as a candidate in 2005.

Wei said the accreditation of will assure their students’ parents that their children are enrolled in a college that complies with U.S. standards.

He said Eucon is the first private college to obtain a license in CNMI, and the first to be accredited by the U.S. Department of Education.
