Letter to the Editor: Vandalism and graffiti

Just because your political signboards were vandalized, some of you are now realizing and waking up that VANDALISM is rampant in our community?

Years of vandalism and graffiti in our community have affected homes, public buildings, schools, the public library, school bus stops, commercial buildings, and so forth and only now you want vandalism stopped and the laws respected.

We say toughen the laws against vandalism and graffiti and hold the parents and guardians responsible and accountable for any minors caught in the act. Have the responsible adults pay or replace damage incurred by such acts. If a minor is involved, discipline the minor by sending him or her to school and speak to students why they do such acts and why it should be stopped.

Violations involving defacing of public buildings or privately owned properties should be stricter and jail time longer, to include stiffer fines imposed.  Education and prevention are the key.  Everything is preventable.
