The WASC team arrived on Sunday to start its four-day evaluation and review of the school’s progress report.
Education Commissioner Rita Sablan said the accreditation team recommended more student programs, the hiring of school nurses and the implementation of teaching strategies to improve student learning.
“Based on the report that I saw, the school worked very hard for the last two years to continue to improve student performance with the support of the school leadership and parents,” Sablan said.
She said the school’s “areas of strength” include the parental support and activities that enable students to do well in school.
School principal Rizalina M. Purugganan believes they will get another six-year accreditation.
“We have a lot of major projects for the school and our curriculum is strong,” she said.
Acting vice principal Erica Thornburgh said the visiting team wants to ensure that students are learning effectively and getting the best education.
Today, she said, the school is expected to get recommendations from the team on what should be improved at KoES.
The visiting team is composed of Roberta M. Richards, Maria Irene Cabral, Jocelyn Ige, Helena C. Juralbal, and Lynn Kahoohalahala.
Richards is the team’s chairwoman.
Thornburgh said the team, since Sunday, has been evaluating and reviewing the progress of the school, interviewed stakeholders, and observed school activities.
In her progress report, Purugganan highlighted the school’s improvement process which focuses on quality learning.
“All projects are done to create a more conducive learning environment for all students,” she said.
Regarding student involvement in school activities, the principal said they have provided a system of support for the academic, emotional and health needs of students.
“These support services are supplemented by activities in both the school and in the community to help each student achieve the expected school wide learning results,” she added.
