The Health Center was funded via the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) Humanitarian and Civic (HCA) Program.
In June 2007, the US Embassy and DETCAT, working in conjunction with Republic of Palau officials, submitted this project to USPACOM for consideration. The USPACOM approved execution of the project (along with the two others; elementary school restrooms and a Police-Fire Substation along the west side of the Compact Road) in March of 2008.DETCAT received funding and completed the design by Surangel and Sons and procurement of the project materials in September of 2008.Previous CAT Teams, CAT 08-04 led by Capt Matthew Caudell and SMSgt Max Babbitt; and CAT 133-24 led by LTJG Riley Smith and BUC Scott Bernard worked with Palauan officials to allow construction of all three projects. CAT 09-05 led by Capt Chris Bulson and SMSgt Freddie Davis, began construction of the Community Health Center in November 2008 and completed the project in April of 2009. The center is 1450 square feet and features a reception area, 2 exam rooms, a lab, a pharmacy, an office, and a restroom. This facility will be staffed and maintained by Palau’s Ministry of Health.
