NMI wins 2 awards at Guam Science Expo

Allyssa Shara-Mae Arangorin, ninth grader of Kagman High School, won first place for her project “A Conventional Way of Filtering Rain Water” which was entered in the Energy, Inventions, Electronics, Photography category.

About 30 projects competed in the category, according to Koblerville Elementary School principal Rizalina Purugganan.

She said that Arangorin  “really worked and deserved such honor.”

In the Physical Science, Computers, Match category Patrick Agustin, a fifth grader of Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary School, placed second for his project “Wind Versus Water.”

Purugganan described the competition as “very tight.”

Arangorin was escorted by her teacher Michael Demapan while Agustin was with his teacher Tawny Barcinas.

Both students received trophies but the formal awarding will take place at the Guam Hilton Hotel on May 29, Purugganan said.

She said the CNMI group arrived on Guam last Friday and came back to Saipan on Sunday.

The actual competition was held on Saturday.

Last year, the CNMI secured two awards from its five entries.
