Radio New Zealand International reports that the next recruitment of local workers is due to begin in the next months.
Tuatagaloa Joe Annandale said it’s been largely successful for many workers who take part, but he admits there are failures.
He said last season out of 170 workers five were sent back to face tough penalties handed out by village councils. Tuatagaloa said the benefit of keeping close tabs on workers is two-fold.
“One is that it’s important for our committees to establish whether this person is really worthy of another chance to go. Because if we find that he’s squandered his money and the family has not benefited from his trip overseas and why we’d rather overlook him and look at somebody else because they’re queuing up for the RSE. We’re getting enquiries every day. There’s no shortage of workers.”
