Man arrested for violating TRO

KENNETH L. Selbart, 30,  has been arrested for violating a temporary restraining order filed against him by his ex-girlfriend.

Selbart has been charged with one count of contempt.

On Tuesday, Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho granted the defendant’s request to be released to a third-party custodian, a relative, after posting a $10,000 unsecured bond.

The Public Defender’s Office was appointed to represent Selbart while Assistant Attorney General Steve Kessel appeared for the government.

On Feb. 5, 2022, the ex-girlfriend told police that Selbart saw her at a Kagman store getting into a white SUV with a male friend. She said the SUV belonged to a friend, adding that “she is scared to drive her own vehicle.”

She said Selbart  followed her in his pick-up truck until she reached her godmother’s house. There she parked the SUV and immediately went to the front door of the house.

When she saw Selbart pull over to the front of the property by the road, she said she quickly went inside the house and called for police assistance.

In an interview with the police, Selbart said he followed the vehicle thinking that it was following him.

He said when the SUV parked outside the house of his ex-girlfriend’s godmother, he walked over to see who the driver was.

He said when the driver’s door opened, his ex-girlfriend came out and he told her, “So that’s you…! Why are you following me?”

When he saw a male passenger in the vehicle, Selbart told her, “You’re cheating on me again? With this guy?”

Selbart admitted to police that his ex-girlfriend had filed a TRO against him, and that it was served on him on Feb. 4, 2022.

On Tuesday, the judge ordered Selbart to return to court on Feb. 16 at 10 a.m. for a preliminary hearing and on Feb. 28 at 9 a.m. for an arraignment.
