The ministry added that there has also been an increase in cases of influenza-like illnesses (ILI), especially in the last month and this raises the likelihood of further spread of this new virus within the community.
The ministry is asking the community to be more vigilant about the disease and help prevent the spread of Influenza A.
The community is reminded to: wash your hands regularly with soap and water; use hand sanitizers or rubbing alcohol if soap and water are not available, cover coughs and sneezes with tissue and dispose of it properly; or, cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve to prevent germs from spreading, avoid close contact with sick people and if you are sick with the flu, contact the 24-Hour Hotline (488-0555) for instructions. And remember to take precaution so you won’t spread it to other people.
The Ministry of Health also urged everyone to follow other public health measures including screening and visiting hours at the Belau National Hospital and other entry points.
Response activities continue at this time to identify cases, assess the level of risk, and provide appropriate care and interventions, the ministry said.
Earlier the ministry confirmed one case of H1N1, the patient has long recovered and has left Palau.
