Asor and Fatharai, Ulithi are nearing completion of the solar power facility and have laid electrical cables and wired individual houses on the island in preparation of the solar panel installation and technical assistance, which arrived last week.
Once the panels have been installed and the necessary training has been provided to Yap State Public Service Corp. employees in Ulithi, the islands will be powered via solar energy.
The residents will receive services from the corporation, which has been charged with maintaining and servicing the solar equipment.
The residents can expect to pay the corporation for services on a cash-power basis.
Money collected for the services will be used to maintain and repair equipment and to buy replacement solar batteries when the current solar batteries expire in 7-10 years time.
