TAXI driver Mohammed Mizanor Rahman and taxi operator Mohammed Habibur Rahman have filed a negligence complaint in federal court against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement over a traffic collision in 2019.
Through attorney Joseph Horey, Rahman sued ICE for negligence and asked the court to issue an order awarding the plaintiffs a total of $12,855.25 for damages.
According to the lawsuit, on May 14, 2019, taxi driver M. Mizanor Rahman was driving a taxi in the southbound inner lane of Middle Road in Chalan Laulau when a vehicle in front of him slowed down and came to a stop as its driver prepared to turn left into the parking lot of the DHL building.
When Mizanor Rahman came to a stop behind the turning vehicle, the taxi he was driving was struck in the rear by another vehicle whose driver was an employee of ICE.
Horey said because of the collision and the ICE employee’s negligence, his client, M. Mizanor Rahman, incurred damages for lost wages, out of pocket expenses, emotional distress and business loss.
The lawyer said M. Habibur Rahman, for his part, incurred damages in the form of repair costs and business loss.
Horey said his clients submitted monetary claims to ICE — M. Mizanor Rahman, $4,280; M. Habibur Rahman $8,575.25 — but they were rejected without explanation.
