Associate Judge Kenneth L. Govendo set a $10,000 cash bail for the temporary liberty of Eddie Jay C. Norita during yesterday’s bail hearing.
Govendo set the preliminary hearing for Aug. 26 and the arraignment for Aug. 31.
The court found probable cause to charge the defendant with one count of assault with a dangerous weapon, one count of assault, one count of disturbing the peace, one count of obstructing justice and interference with law enforcement officer and one count of minor consuming liquor.
In her affidavit, Detective Andrea C. Ozawa said at 5:48 p.m. on Aug. 16, the Department of Public Safety received a disturbance report from a male individual in Kagman.
Ozawa said police officers were dispatched to respond to the scene and met the father of the suspect.
The suspect’s father was one of the three victims while the other two were the suspect’s common-law wife and a passerby.
There were two crime scenes involved in the case.
The first scene was on the victim’s farm and the second was by Jepen Li Store, both in Kagman.
Ozawa said the suspect was drunk and threatened to fight his father.
The suspect’s father told police he was taking a shower when Norita started throwing stones at him.
He said the suspect was much taller and bigger than him so he sent Norita’s common-law wife to go to the fire station to get help.
At this point, another person stopped by with his pick-up truck.
The suspect’s common-law wife then shouted that the suspect was coming toward them, swinging a machete.
A responding police officer told Norita to put the machete down, but the suspect still hit the passerby’s pickup truck with his machete.
He was then arrested.
Police said the suspect continued to be combative, saying he was not sorry because he wanted to fight with his father.
Norita was transported to the Department of Corrections where he was booked and detained.
