The purpose of the meeting was for the president to discuss key issues for FSM and update the audience on some of the initiatives the Mori administration has worked toward and launched, including the electronic passport renewal to assist traveling citizens and those living abroad, especially in Guam and Honolulu, and a joint lending scheme with the FSM Development Bank and Pacific Islands Development Bank to encourage export-led growth activities for FSM.
FSMDB Chairman Iso Nahnken Ihlen Joseph, and PIDB President Aren Palik, gave a presentation on the proposed lending scheme.
FSM Chief Immigration Officer Mohner Esiel, presented the passport program.
Statistics and Budget Director Fabian Nimea gave an overview of the FSM economy in conjunction with the global recession.
Mori discussed issues such as climate change, submarine fiber optic cable, the education system, human resource capacity, transportation, trade, and the citizens’ contributions to the FSM economy through remittances.
