The task force has no estimated figures but its special advisor Kay Delafield said the loss of water in those areas is significant.
As the repair work continues, water supply to the households in San Roque and Lower Base will eventually be fully pressurized, she added.
Last June, the task force completed the leak detection and repair work in San Antonio, Chalan Kanoa and Garapan.
During the operation, Delafield said they discovered “unrecorded water lines” that where either installed illegally or not properly recorded by the Commonwealth Utilities Corp.
Delafield said there were minor interruptions of water supply when they conducted excavation, as they had to isolate some areas while working block-by-block so as not to completely affect the whole water distribution.
The project, she said, will help pressurize the areas.
An adequate water supply and a pressurized system are necessary to the basic health of the community, she added.
The water task force has been working for five years now to improve the public utility water system on Saipan, Delafield said.
The task force, she added, works with CUC to plan and execute capital improvement projects that will help bring 24-hour water to all customers on island.
