Commonwealth Development Authority Executive Director Manuel A. Sablan yesterday said they submitted CDA’s recommendations to the governor on Monday.
“The governor has 45 days to act on the written recommendations,” he added.
Sablan did not provide specific details about their recommendations, but he said the call center will be a good business venture.
According to Sablan, they met with the IT&E management last week to discuss the amendments to the company’s qualifying certificate before coming up with the recommendations CDA submitted to the governor.
“This is a new business which will mean employment for the local people,” Sablan said. “But the support of the government is needed for this venture.”
IT&E has asked CDA to amend the company’s qualifying certificate so it could get 100 percent tax abatement for 20 years, an extension of excise tax abatement from three to five years, and an additional 10-year income tax abatement period.
IT&E’s executive director for contact centers division Rob Harrell earlier said that the additional tax incentives would allow them to offset costly operations while creating more jobs for the local people.
Last month, IT&E held a job fair for the proposed call center which attracted over 400 jobseekers.
