Man gets 10-day jail term for stealing cow

Associate Judge Ramona V. Manglona ordered Franklin M. Aldan to report to the Department of Corrections to serve the remainder of his unsuspended sentence on Sept. 21 at 8 a.m. He will be released on Sept. 27, 2009 at 8 a.m.

Following his release, he will be placed on five years probation to run concurrently with another criminal case he is charged with.

He will pay a $100 assessment fee within 30 days, a probation fee of $20 and $1,000 restitution to the victim, Herman Somorang.

He must also obey all commonwealth, federal and state laws.

Manglona set a review hearing for Dec. 9, 2009 at 1:30 p.m.

Aldan appeared in court for a plea hearing on Sept. 16 with Assistant Public Defender Douglas W. Hartig.

Assistant Attorney General Matthew Meyer represented the government.

Aldan waived his rights and entered a guilty plea to one count of theft.

He was arrested in May last year after he and his brother were charged with stealing a cow.

Associate Judge Kenneth Govendo set a cash bail of $1,000 for each of the two brothers during the bail hearing on May 6, 2008.

Detective Nicholas C. Leon Guerrero stated in his affidavit that a theft incident was reported to the police on April 5, 2008.
