The AG serves at the pleasure of the governor, he said.
As the appointing authority, he added, the governor can fire the appointed AG based on performance and the people’s feedback.
But if the AG is an elected official, even if he is performing badly from day one, the people will have “to wait for another four years to elect a new one.”
Buckingham added, “[As an appointed AG], I got to do my job. If the governor likes my job then I got to produce more.”
He said an appointed AG is “more accountable.”
