Several government agencies have been mobilized in locating Hirofumi Matusumoto, 31, who was last seen surfing with his friend behind the Aquarius Hotel on Sunday afternoon.
The two surfers were pulled outside the reef by the strong current, investigation disclosed.
Tarkong said the DPS Dive Rescue Team yesterday conducted surface searches and body recovery searches outside the reef line.
The DPS Fire Search and Rescue Unit, for its part, conduted its search on the shoreline for any signs of the missing surfer.
Also assisting the search were the Emergency Management Office and the U.S. Coast Guard.
“The surf is still hazardous,” Tarkong said.
DPS has closed the Sugar Dock beach and no one is allowed to fish, surf or swim in the area due to the hazardous surf and ongoing rescue operations.
