Senate Bill No. 8-87 calls for amendments in the law to permit bingo and cockfighting activities in the country.
The present law states that any form of gambling in Palau is prohibited, the bill however excludes bingo and cockfighting as an illegal form of gambling.Under the measure, the changes will read:(1) Any gambling in directly connected with cockfighting, defined as a fight between two gamecocks held in a ring called a cockpit;(2) Bingo, defined as a game in which numbered balls are drawn at random and players cover the corresponding numbers on their cards; andThe measure further added that any game for the purpose of raising funds for a worthy cause or for entertainment, sponsored by any school, church organization, social public gathering or open non-profit organizations will also be excluded from the prohibition.
