According to the 2009 Household Income Survey conducted by Bureau of Budget Planning, Office of Planning and Statistics under the Ministry of Finance, the total number of household in Palau covering the 16 states are 3,528, with Koror having the biggest number with 2,116.
According to the statistics, there were 19, 535 covered by the survey. The survey cited 5,424 non-Palauan population with an estimated 5,228 foreigners employed from the population. It also noted that the public sector employment is bigger than the private sector employing about 2,818 in year 2008 compared to the latter with only 2,252.The survey also added that income from own business of households surveyed only reached 99.It also noted that food preparation or “bentos” are informal activities that are being conducted as a source of other income.Despite the hard times, there are 439 households employing domestic helpers. In Palau there are 102 households with no income.The survey also noted that there are 442 who own lands in Palau.
