But the committee chairman, Rep. Ralph DLG. Torres said although the public hearing was cancelled, the oversight hearings for the Commonwealth Health Center and the state of public health will go on this week.
Torres, R-Saipan, said they cannot compel anyone to attend the hearing, but they will subpoena Department of Public Health documents regarding doctor salaries, human resources, and other CHC issues.
“We need to have the documents we requested from Public Health so we will know where the problem lies, where we will start and what we need to do next,” Torres said.
On Monday, he released the results of a survey the committee conducted at CHC from July to August which, he added, showed that “Public Health issues are very critical and alarming and it’s the worst ever.”
He said Public Health needs to be aggressive in hiring more doctors to address the medical needs of the community.
Moreover, “we have a state of the art hemodialysis center yet it is not being utilized.”
Public Health earlier said that the center would be opened by Aug. 15.
