With an enormous lead, 83 – 68, heading towards the last quarter of the match only to see it dwindled to a single digit point courtesy of an impressive run put up by the Surangel cagers that inched their way in trying to tie the ballgame, Western Union got themselves regrouped and made changes that proved to be worthy. With a second technical foul committed by point guard of Surangel in the dying minute and some break down plays at the offensive end this proved to be costly as the momentum shifted once more to Western Union. Form there the remittance specialists players Tecson, Bautista, Alambra, and Baysa worked a much better execution of their plays that finally ended the agony of their opponent with a final score of 109 – 102.
Arnold Undencimo, Deloy Pinggot, and Eric Manio topscored for team Surangel with 38, 22, and 21 points respectively while Tecson, Patena, Bautista, for Western Union who produced 30, 22, and 27 on that order. For the rest of the two games that weekend, Ilocnadia – Bulls bullied their way in thumping PRA – Choppers ending with a score of 94 – 66 while PIA – Slashers “no show” resulted on a forfeit to Palau Nationals.Four matches are played every Sunday afternoon in which the first game starts at exactly 11:00 a.m. The 2009 Filipino Basketball League is operated and supervised by the Palau Basketball Federation and sponsored by PITI, CTSI-Logistics, J.Trading/ATT, Surangel and Sons, Ilocandia Association, Ilonggo Association, Pinoy Express, Aqua Drinking water and Western Union.
