Build a Castle Save a Reef was truly a one-of-a-kind community event, where Marianas Variety paired up with non-profit organization Light in the Eve Foundation to bring in sand sculpting masters from Australia and Dubai to lead school competitions and raise funds to help preserve a precious natural resource, our coral reefs.
Junior High and High School teams from Saipan, Rota and Tinian all met on Hyatt Regency Saipan beach, one of the event’s major sponsors as well, and built sand sculptures based on the theme of the event and guided by world renowned sand sculpting masters.
Held in 2004, 2005 and 2006, the creativity, spirit and resourcefulness displayed by each of the school teams led to some of the most captivating sand sculptures and became a spot for tourists to take photos even days after the competition.
