Saipan Vegas has teamed up with the Division of Agriculture to contribute 100 trees to the campaign. Fifty of those trees are being donated to  Oleai Elementary School and 50 will be planted on the Saipan Country Club golf course.

Saipan Vegas will also match the Lady Torres Foundation, with a $1 donation for every plant to benefit the Micronesia Islands Nature Alliance.

“Saipan Vegas Resort, is very glad to support this campaign, it a fantastic idea to support the local environment and a great example of thinking globally concerning global warning and environment challenges of the future and acting locally to do our part as a community to help the local environment.  We also wanted to work with the local school to be part of this important initiative to help our local children be aware that they can contribute to this important campaign and help their local school environment and watch their trees grow. It’s a good example of local business, government and the local community all coming together to help our Island environment.” said Gus Noble, Saipan Vegas consultant.

For its part, the Lady Torres Foundation said: “We are very honored to have Saipan Vegas take part in the challenge and efforts to help our environment as well as contributing to our community. The matching of $1 for each tree planted caught us by surprise. We are thrilled to have such a movement supported by our business partners and individuals and wish the momentum continues throughout. We continue to encourage everyone on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota to participate by planting a tree, as our deadline draws near.”

Oleai Elementary school said it is “fortunate to take part in the Plant 500 Trees Campaign. This event will teach our students not only how to plant, but also teach them the importance of caring for the environment they live in. Our school lost many tall trees due to Typhoon Soudelor and Super Typhoon Yutu over the past five years. These trees provided a canopy for shade during outdoor activities and so the event will benefit our students and the school community in so many ways in the future.”
