THE Northern Marianas Technical Institute plans to launch a website that will provide students with interactive learning tools.
Due to the surge in the number of Covid-19 cases on island, the trade school is temporarily closed.
Jodina Attao, NMTI chief executive officer, said their faculty and staff are taking this opportunity to create their website which they hope to launch by mid-January 2022.
The website, she added, will have valuable content and easy-to-access reliable information including student database, calendar of events, contact details, forms and others.
“Thankfully, the National Center for Construction Education Research or NCCER already has something in place, called NCCERconnect. This will allow us to transition online with minimal training and in a more seamless manner,” she said.
NMTI is an accredited training unit for all NCCER certified programs, such as welding, HVAC, construction technology, electrical, among other subjects.
NMTI plans to integrate NCCERconnect to its online training, Attao added.
Through NCCERconnect, she said NMTI will be able to provide students with an interactive self-study tool.
As for face-to-face instruction, she said NMTI is working on a plan to “stagger” the schedules of in-person work-based learning for each cohort of students.
“Trades programs require much hands-on and in-person training. [We want] to ensure that students receive education to its fullest potential,” she said.
NMTI’s second cycle of classes has been canceled twice, she added.
“Therefore, we are using this second school shutdown to prepare for the transition. It is a huge task to take on, but our team members here at NMTI are excited to put their heads down and put in the work to get ready for the transition,” Attao added.
