During McDonald’s Restaurant of Guam and Saipan president Joe Ayuyu said since McDonald’s on Saipan was established, he has been touring McDonald’s charity houses. One particular need that he saw is medical attention for the children who have unique and specific medical conditions like harelip.

In the Pacific region, he said a lot of families are financially challenged. Parents would give up everything to provide their children or any member of family the medical attention they need. “Just imagine yourself growing up from baby to adult with harelip, the embarrassment you face every day, and so a lot of these kids have very low self-esteem,” he said.

He said the Ronald McDonald House Charities works with hospitals that allows these children “to have a meaningful life.”

“I am very passionate about this coming from a poor family,” he added. “If you come from a very poor family and there is a kid that needs medical condition I know that you will do everything you can to try and help the  kid,” he said.

Established as a non-profit organization on March 27, 1987, the Ronald McDonald House Charities is not directly affiliated with McDonald’s Corporation or any of its restaurants and relies heavily on the support of the community to continue delivering the services for those in need.

It provides warm meals, comfortable beds, and a positive environment to create a home-away-from home for families of hospitalized children. The programs help parents find rest at a location close to what matters most — their ill or injured child. This generates a sense of hope for families as they navigate some of the most difficult times of their lives.

This hope will be possible through the generous support of its loyal partners throughout Guam and Saipan.

Over the past 38 years, the house has help more than 13,000 families from the CNMI, Guam, the Federated States of Micronesia, the Marshall Islands, Palau and all islands of the state of Hawaii.
