‘I have safeguarded the integrity of CNMI budget process’

SPECIAL Assistant for Management and Budget Virginia “Vicky” Villagomez on Friday issued the following statement regarding Gov. Ralph DLG Torres’ decision to terminate her:

“On Dec. 2, 2021, Gov. Ralph DLG Torres issued my letter of termination from my position as the special assistant for management and budget.  I understand in my position as the special assistant that I serve at the pleasure of the governor.

“I give credit to the late Gov. Eloy S. Inos who undoubtedly gave me the opportunity to be a public servant under his leadership during his tenure as the director of the Department of Finance in 1989.  I am proud to have been mentored by him until his passing.  Today, I exit this position knowing I have safeguarded the integrity of the budget process of the CNMI.

“I would like to extend my sincerest appreciation to my staff at the Office of Management and Budget, Capital Improvement Program, and the Hazard Mitigation and Public Assistance programs.”

Villagomez has been special assistant for management and budget since the  Teno administration in 1998. She is a supporter of the Arnold-Dave gubernatorial ticket.

In his letter to Villagomez on Thursday, the governor said:  “In the interest of the Commonwealth, “I have decided to terminate your time as the special assistant of the Office of the Management and Budget” effective immediately.

He said items such as keys, key cards, phones, computer equipment (laptops, tablets, etc.) work documents, and any other government property in her possession or control “shall be returned to the offices of OMB,” and “any matters related to closing out your time as the Special Assistant of OMB will be addressed by the Special Assistant for Administration Mathilda A. Rosario.”
