THE Athletics claimed their first win of the Northern Mariana Islands Softball Association’s 2nd Annual Summer T-Ball League on Saturday, outscoring the Mariners, 26-17, at the Miguel “Tan Ge” Pangelinan Ball Field.
The Mariners attempted to set the tone early, entering the top of the opening inning swinging and bringing in three runs before being handed three outs.
However, a sudden offensive burst from the Athletics hauled in eight runs to snatch control of the lead, 8-3.
In the second inning, the Mariners found their rhythm from the batter’s box, with Mani Santos, Mili Tenorio, and Jayla Castro leading a seven-run comeback to retake the upper hand, 10-8.
Undaunted, the Athletics delivered in the bottom half, with Lyle Deleon Guerrero, Jasiah Villagomez, and Deion Standish joining the highlight reel, contributing to a nine-run rally to maintain their role as aggressors, 17-10.
The Mariners carried the momentum into the third and final inning, mirroring their previous performance by squeezing in seven more runs. But the Athletics stayed efficient in the bottom half, racking up another nine runs to stay ahead and ultimately secure their first win of the season, 26-17.
Also joining the winner’s circle were the Padres, who narrowly escaped defeat against the Pirates, 23-22, while the Blue Jays and the Comets settled for a 21-21 tie.
