Profile: RV Caberos: The voice behind the ‘Get up and Go’ show

Disc jockey Rovic Caberos, or DJ RV to his thousands of avid listeners, takes his place before the microphone at the KWAW FM station on the ground floor of the Marianas Business Plaza at 6 a.m., waking up the world with the top musical hits on air.

He enjoys interacting with his listeners all through 12 noon from Monday to Friday, giving advice and providing listeners with their morning dose of music.

He does not use a script, as what other DJs generally do.

“I just say things that come from my heart and things that come to my mind while on the show, and that’s what makes the show more interesting,” he said.

Caberos said life as a disk jockey has its share of ups and downs just like any other jobs but knowing that in one way or another, he has touched the lives of people every day is satisfying.

“It feels nice to have people recognize your voice wherever you go. A lot of people don’t know me but when they hear my voice, they immediately know I am the voice behind that ‘Get up and Go Show’ that wakes them up each morning,” he said.

Receiving calls from impatient callers who don’t want to wait for their requests to be played is one challenge that RV has to battle every day.

“Another challenge is when I tackle an issue or a general problem and I get a call with somebody reciting an angry tirade at the other end of the line, insisting that I was broadcasting his/her life to the whole world. You have to have the patience of the saints to be able to go on with the show,” Caberos said.

A journalism graduate from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines, he worked for a radio station there but shifted to other directions when he arrived on Saipan in 2003, working as a reflexologist at the Coral Ocean Point for a year and as a waiter for another year at a restaurant. He did not neglect his original calling and started writing for a local magazine, before finally getting a job as a disc jockey at the KWAW FM in March 2006.

Caberos is also into photography, capturing the  beauty of things and people and nature through his lens.

To his listeners, he has this to share: “God has given us a certain reason to enjoy every minute of our life, don’t waste it. Do things that will make you worthy. And do things that will not harm the feelings of the people closest to your heart. And smile.”

He also thanks all the supporters and listeners who had been with the “Get up and Go” show through all these years.

“If not for you, I wouldn’t still be here. I hope you continue to wake up with me early in the morning until noon. Wake up and go!” Caberos said.
