BC’s Tales of the Pacific | Encouragement for anxious times

GOOD people everywhere are getting discouraged by Covid, by politics, by failure, by false comforters.  These are anxious times when we all need reminders from someone who cares.  Please read the following quotes slowly, one at a time.  Taste and savor them.  Let them pull you up from your despair:

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do, so throw off the bowlines, sail away from safe harbor, catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore, Dream, Discover.” — Mark Twain

“In essence, if we want to direct our lives, we must take control of our consistent actions. It’s not what we do once in a while that shapes our lives, but what we do consistently.” — Tony Robbins

“Music does a lot of things for a lot of people. It’s transporting, for sure. It can take you right back, years back, to the very moment certain things happened in your life. It’s uplifting, it’s encouraging, it’s strengthening.” — Aretha Franklin

“I’ve always loved journaling as a way to clear my mind. Whether I’m traveling or at home, the first thing I do when I wake up is pull out my notebook and record positive things that have happened to me as well as uplifting thoughts.” — Gloria Reuben

“Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful stroke of luck.” — Dalai Lama

“A successful man is one who can lay a firm foundation with the bricks others have thrown at him.” — David Brinkley

“The best way to cheer yourself up is to try to cheer somebody else up.” — Mark Twain

“The more the panic grows, the more uplifting the image of a man who refuses to bow to the terror.” — Ernst Junger

“Is it so bad, then, to be misunderstood? Pythagoras was misunderstood, and Socrates, and Jesus, and Luther, and Copernicus, and Galileo, and Newton, and every pure and wise spirit that ever took flesh. To be great is to be misunderstood.” — Ralph Waldo Emerson

“If you don’t change your beliefs, your life will be like this forever. Is that good news?” — Douglas Noel Adams

“First, have a definite, clear practical ideal: a goal, an objective. Second, have the necessary means to achieve your ends: wisdom, money, materials, and methods. Third, adjust all your means to that end.” — Aristotle

“Be an Encourager: When you encourage others, you boost their self-esteem, enhance their self-confidence, make them work harder, lift their spirits and make them successful in their endeavors. Encouragement goes straight to the heart and is always available. Be an encourager. Always.” — Roy T. Bennett

“Believing in yourself is enough, but it sure is nice when another’s kind words of encouragement kiss your ear. There is genuine strength in verbal expressions of support.” — Richelle E. Goodrich

“But I’ve bought a big bat./ I’m all ready, you see./ Now my troubles are going/ To have troubles with me!” — Dr. Seuss
