The Inkling: Let the horses go!

I think one of the reasons why most of us are struggling is because everyone is “waiting” for something.  Some are “waiting” for the right moment.  Others are “waiting” for the right person.  And still, there are others in a “waiting” line somewhere hoping to receive something that they have been “waiting” for – for how long, I cannot imagine.

“Stand in line and be patient” is among the list of things I was forced to practice.  I think I break the record for having failed to be patient since kindergarten.  I simply do not have patience for ridiculous things; and I do not like “waiting” for something or someone who should have arrived minutes ago – except my wife. She delivers on her promises. You and I can fix some of the problems in our society if we simply stop waiting for the government to do something about them.  I do understand that you are waiting for our elected officials to deliver on their promises – I must tell you that some of them who you probably voted for have served multiple terms and left office.  I know you have been waiting for a number years for some agency to revamp the sewer system so that you can link your flush toilet to it and not cause a smell.  I also know that you are likely waiting for someone to tell you what to do with your child so that he or she does not become a “disgrace to the family,” a “menace to society,” or a “reason to complain about the inadequacies of the school systems.”  You are going to be waiting for quite some time because you have been “waiting.”Let us take for example the cleanliness of Palau.  You have been waiting for the national and state governments to clean the public roads and public parks, get rid of the graffiti and “eye-sores,” and maintenance of Palau’s coastal waters.  In fact, despite numerous warnings about dengue fever and other health related issues, you have waited for government officials to tell you that your yard is need of proper and appropriate maintenance.  I am sure the mosquito siphoned some of your blood while you were waiting for PPUC to find a cure for the “denki” fever. If you and I had not waited this far, most of the mosquito population would still be residing in mangroves and our homes would be energy efficient – lit with fluorescent bulbs.  Most of our children would be writing and drawing in their notebooks instead of walls of government buildings and other public surfaces.  Our toilets would be six feet above the ground, smell-free, water saving, and capable of producing safe organic fertilizer in matter of time.I think you and I best stop waiting.  Let us just do something.  Let us pick a little trash here and there, get off a line so that the person behind can move forth, and most of all, let us give a little so people do not have to wait any longer.
