Letter to the Editor: Corruption in the NMI

Articles 19 of our CNMI Constitution states clearly that a “Code of Ethics shall apply to appointed and elected officers and employees of the commonwealth and the political subdivisions, including members of boards, commission and other instrumentalities.”

We believe that the Senate does have this Code of Ethics in place. We also believe that if this was a regular government employee, the employee will be immediately placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the charges.

But since Mr. Itibus is a close constituent of the administration and members of the Legislature he is given the RED CARPET treatment. The next move will be for the executive branch and its newly appointed attorney general filing a motion QUASHING the charges. This is why it is important that an initiative be placed before the people on the ballot to amend our Constitution and allow for an ELECTED ATTORNEY GENERAL.

This is also the very reason no LOCAL ATTORNEY would dare take such a position as their entire career and reputation will be forever tainted and corrupted once controlled by a governor.

Such insults and disrespect to the people of the commonwealth by our elected leaders who continue to manipulate and cover up crimes that have been committed against the community and special preferential treatment of criminal cases do exist in a government full of corruption.
