Letter to the Editor: A critical vote this Nov. 2

It makes sense to have someone in Washington who has a proven track record of establishing close ties with the feds, as opposed to others who have painfully demonstrated a desire to keep the feds at bay. Federal monies are keeping our economy afloat. Does it make any reasonable sense to have someone in Washington who works hard at opposing the feds; or someone without current experience in Washington? Even if a candidate has previously worked in Washington, they are unlikely up-to-speed with current political tides.

As an Independent, Kilili need not bend to the wishes of a particular party, especially when the party’s agenda may very well be adverse to what is best for ALL of the people. It is certainly clear to most citizens that the current ruling party has their own agenda and that agenda benefits only a very few. Kilili can make the choices which will benefit the COMMON GOOD. While the Governor openly snubs Kilili and attempts to discredit him, Kilili has clearly shown that he can stand on his own two feet and work well with the feds, doing more in two years to benefit the economy than all five years of the current ruling party. And he does this with a very real concern for the best interests of the CNMI.

Kilili has the experience of working in Washington. He works tirelessly for the people of the CNMI. He has demonstrated that his hard work pays off by securing much-needed financial support from the feds. And he has performed with integrity. Now is NOT the time to change from a WINNER to a candidate beholden to the wishes and agenda of a particular party. The CNMI’s financial future largely rests on what happens in Washington over the next couple of years.

Go out and vote this Nov. 2 — not for a party’s influence or a family name, but for the candidate who will most benefit the entire CNMI.
