Letter to the Editor: Guahan and Saipan

The name Guahan is already being used by some businesses on Guam such as Guahan Waste Control Inc., Guahan Magazine, Guahan Village and many more.

But Guam has a little problem because the military buildup is not yet fully operational. They already published in the newspaper that Guam needs 10,000 skilled workers with salaries based on federal rates. Many companies went to the Philippines and they also went to Saipan.

They said they would give priority to the people here on Saipan. But then they went to the Philippines to hire their H2 workers.

I just want to say that these companies will not make a profit. If the companies hire skilled workers from Saipan, they may not have any problem because there are 300 overstayers and 200 with umbrella permits who can be hired for Guam projects.

One more thing: these people waited for the federal takeover of immigration with the hope that they could get better immigration status.

For those who are waiting, be patient because the governor of Guam and  the governor of the CNMI, Benigno Fitial, have toured the Japanese officials to the American base to show the relocation of the military buildup, and Governor Camacho met with President Obama and Interior Secretary Ken Salazar and the U.S. Department of Agriculture about the islands’ needs and the required federal support to get ready for the military buildup.

To the people of Saipan, it’s  good news that our economy will soon boom again. President Obama signed a bill to boost tourism. The Travel Promotion Act is given the final approval by the U.S. Senate and will result in a fund increase effort to market top U.S. travel destinations. The U.S. Travel Association estimates that the program will create nearly 40,000 jobs in the first year. This is a historic victory for the U.S. economy.

Biba Guam!
