I am a family member of the late Joaquin Mesngon Ogo Sr., also known as “Tan Kindo,” who was given tribute by our present leadership in the legislative and executive branches through the enactment of P.L. 16-16 on Sept. 9, 2008. This act named the Sinapalo baseball field after our beloved grandfather.
This really means a lot to us, the family. We can vividly remember the tremendous time and sacrifices he made for our community of Rota. Through his efforts we were given the opportunity to enjoy a family-oriented sport that ultimately sparked camaraderie throughout the various families.
I fondly remember “Ta” making his gestures as an umpire and having the crowd break out in laughter as a result of his jolly spirit. He made the event entertaining and enjoyable. We had such a great time that it brought about the spirit of sportsmanship, where winning was not the focal point of the game. His untiring service as a volunteer gave us the opportunity to gather as a community.
The very existence of our small communities need more people like him. No matter what sport or activity, it seems that volunteerism is the root of success. As a community, only through unselfish individuals can we continue to prosper.
We, the family, extend our deepest appreciation to the various individuals that forever memorialized his accomplishments.
