Since 1996, the Legislature has been enacting legislation pertaining to the merit increase for all civil service employees.
After so many years and even now, we have heard a lot of promises to have our merit increase but to no avail.
We have a lot of problems facing our islands and still the Legislature has the guts to come up with such a bill.
We all know that it’s election year and our senators and representatives need the votes to win. Remember, our governor proposed to have austerity measures and no holiday pay for employees below the department head, and this is what the lower level employees will see from their respective senators and representatives — a bill raising the salary of Rota and Tinian resident department heads.
Do our hard working employees deserve to be ignored for the longest time or should our Legislature find ways and means to have all of the employees get what they have waited for so, so, so, so, so, LONG?
In closing, the people that we put in that chair that is so comfortable is not the kind of representatives we need in the Legislature.
Our people deserve better representatives.
I speak for those that deserve the increase. LET US WORK TOGETHER TO FULFILL THE NEEDS OF ALL EMPLOYEES. Thank you.
