A lot of businesses, major hotels, restaurants, grocery stores, and even churches are showing poor reasonable accommodations in regards to disability access. Proper parking ramps are not strategically situated, poorly situated parking spaces, entrance doors are not accessible and door ramps are not in place. Wheelchair clients like myself have to struggle hard to jump our chairs just to make it into these establishments.
Although a lot of these business establishments in the CNMI do not show reasonable accommodations for people on wheelchair, some of the businesses are commendable for showing courtesy and seriousness for accommodating persons with disability. Joeten is one good example of the kind of business that caters to the needs of people with disabilities.
As a person with disabilities, I am finding it hard to believe that something as simple as a door ramp in front of businesses are hard to find in the CNMI. Because of this, I am kindly urging you, Senate President Paul Manglona and Speaker Froilan Tenorio, to discuss this issue with your colleagues. Thank you very much. Si Yu’us ma’ase. Hafa Adai, Tirow.
