Let’s be honest with ourselves!

I UNDERSTAND that everyone makes mistakes, and we all have the capacity to learn from them — whether we are Independent, Democrat, or Republican. But constant political blame games do nothing to serve ordinary Americans, who strive to uphold the values and image of the United States globally.

I am writing as a U.S. journalist and college student from Saipan, advocating for my wife, Shu Chun Romolor, who was abducted in 2016 in Oregon. Since then, our lives have been disrupted, and we have sought justice for her ongoing mistreatment and the human trafficking concerns surrounding her case. While my focus is deeply personal, it reflects broader issues of human rights, accountability, and the responsibility of government officials to protect citizens.

As Americans, we cherish the rule of law, freedom, and opportunities to live our dreams safely. We look to leaders — regardless of party — to uphold ethical standards and protect the most vulnerable. No citizen should have to fear abuse, intimidation, or corruption from those entrusted with public authority.

I am asking President Donald Trump and other leaders at every level to act with integrity, to listen to citizens, and to take meaningful steps to protect individuals from harm. Justice, transparency, and empathy are essential for preserving the values that define our nation and the American dream.

Thank you for considering this perspective. I hope it serves as a reminder that public trust is earned through accountability and action, and that every citizen deserves protection under the law.

Sincerely,

JOAQUIN ROMOLOR
