TO Lieutenant Commander Jonathan Lash and the crew of the USCGC Hickory:
On behalf of the community here in Guam and across the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, we want to extend our most joyful “Welcome Home.”
Seeing the USCGC Hickory return to Apra Harbor after your monumental 13,000-mile journey from Baltimore is a moment of immense pride for all of us. We know that 71 days at sea is no small sacrifice, and we are deeply moved by the dedication you have shown in bringing the “Bull of the Pacific” back to our waters.
We often look out at our beautiful horizon, but we don’t always see the tireless work that goes into keeping it safe. We are incredibly grateful for the mission you are about to undertake — from the heavy lifting of restoring our vital buoys and harbor markers to the silent watch you keep over our sailors and fishermen. Your presence brings a renewed sense of security to our islands, ensuring that our shipping lanes remain open and our maritime heritage is protected.
To the families who waited so patiently on the pier: thank you for your strength and for sharing your loved ones with the service. To the crew: we hope your first few days back are filled with rest, home-cooked meals, and the warmth of the islands you work so hard to protect.
Thank you for your service, your resilience, and your commitment to the Pacific. We are honored to have you back in your homeport.
With deepest respect and gratitude,
The People of Guam and the CNMI.
