FIVE of the Music Performing Arts Competition Corp.’s Marianas Got Talent finalists on Monday performed in the Senate chamber ahead of the singing competition’s grand finale, which is set for Nov. 26 at Saipan World Resort’s Royal Taga Hall.
Accompanied by MPACC President Danny Quitugua and board member Arlene Reyes, Marianas Got Talent finalists Bernice Sabino, Donovan Castro, Dwayne Castro, Jessel Antonio and Sebastian Tajibmai showcased their talents during the public comment portion of the Senate session.
Sabino performed her version of Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling In Love”; Donovan Castro and Dwayne Castro sang the reggae version of Lionell Richie’s “Stuck On You”; Antonio belted out Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You”; and Tajibmai performed an island-reggae version of James Blunt’s “Monsters.”
Quitugua told the senators that the winners of the competition will be referred to America’s Got Talent and the Voice. Hopefully, he said, through the CNMI singers’ participation in these widely watched competitions, the Commonwealth will have a “great exposure.”
Quitugua said “we want to use the power of music to bring our people together.” There are a lot of people hurting in the community right now, and everybody is feeling the pain, he added.
The power of music can help bring “a little bit of happiness to our community,” Quitugua said.
