First health fair expected to draw many participants

Glimpses of Saipan and Beach Road Magazine’s Susan Marchitti said 17 organizations and entities have already confirmed participation on Saturday. More participants are still invited to join the event and help the people of the CNMI learn to live healthier lives, but Marchitti urges others who are interested to join to register earlier because they will be preparing the general layout of the fair venue.

“We want people to come and enjoy, learn how to eat better, play harder, and learn wellness as a way of life,” Marchitti said.

There will be booths, games, raffle draws, demonstrations, food and drinks, and different health screenings from the various booths throughout the day.

“We are very glad of the wonderful turnout of participants. The services to be offered varies from one organization to another such as training on CPR and First Aid, martial-arts, Tai Chi, aerobic dancing, healthy cooking, proper use of exercise equipment, bike safety, massage therapy, self defense, and Q & A with a doctor or health practitioner,” Marchitti said.

Companies and organizations that have confirmed to participate include the Pacific Marine Resource Institute, the Commonwealth Cancer Association, PHI Pharmacy, the Northern Marianas Protection and Advocacy Systems Inc., Marianas Health Services, the Department of Public Health, Brabu Pharmacy, Dunk Booth sponsored by FluWatch, Del Benson Photography, Bike Relay, the Commonwealth Diabetes Coalition, Ayuda Network, Foremost, Subway, Gold’s Gym and Hinemlu Familia.

Marchitti said the Health and Wellness Fair venue is near the Sabalu Market, a popular Saturday destination.

She said they hope to increase visibility of health and wellness resources within the community, increase personal health awareness among participants, motivate participants to make positive health behavior changes, provide a variety of health screenings and educational materials, provide participants with preventive care information, screen individuals for certain conditions and enroll community members into social service programs.

“Let us work together to educate and raise awareness for a healthier, happier community,” Marchitti said.
