Power 99 to air teen segment

“The idea is to bring it back,” she said. Palacios said this time they will be taking a fresh approach.

“Our idea is to assemble a talk show centered on the youth. Not just the teens but for people ten years old up to the age of 23. That is my vision of the show,” Palacios told Variety.

The station is also looking for sponsors for the program. “We’re looking for private and government agencies that are willing to sponsor the program. The only reason for the sponsorship is so that we can be able to compensate the hosts working for the program,” she said.

She said the station is still working on a name of the show but the purpose of the segment is to bring light to issues that teens are not usually comfortable talking about with their parents or others older than them.

In addition, the segment will be a perfect opportunity to prevent teenagers from practicing harmful behavior by shedding light on their damaging results.

Palacios said topics include HIV, HPV, cervical cancer, teen pregnancy, underage drinking and smoking, drugs, and driving under the influence, just to name a few.

“Our hosts will be around the same age as the rest of the guests coming in. it’s important to establish a peer-to-peer relation,” she said.

Palacios said she has a load of great ideas for the teens of this generation that will include, but is not limited to, seeing to establishing a teen center where teenagers can hang out, dance, converse, play games, and surf the net.

“I’d need help from our community and the government to help meet the needs of this plan. This way the teenagers get to have a place of their own where they can have fun and rule out the idea that drugs and alcohol are the only fun available on the island,” Palacios said, adding that the idea has been an idea for so long and it is about time to make it into a reality.

The segment is planned to air on weekdays, every Thursday from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.  Any changes will be announced.
