Tinian’s Taga Festival canceled due to rainy weather

THE rainy weather has caused the cancellation of the Gineptin Ha’anen Taga, also known as Taga Festival, according to the office of Tinian Mayor Edwin P. Aldan.

Gineptin Ha’anen Taga was scheduled for Oct. 25 and 26, but “unfavorable weather conditions” are expected for this weekend, a social media post of the Tinian mayor’s office stated.

“This decision was made with the safety and well-being of our community in mind,” the post stated on Oct. 22. “We understand the excitement and anticipation surrounding this beloved event, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused to sponsors, participants, vendors, and attendees. We appreciate your understanding and support. Please stay tuned for updates on future events and activities.”

According to an Oct. 23 release from the National Weather Service on Guam, Invest 98W, a system near Chuuk, is “favored for continued development and motion toward Marianas.”

“Though models still keep the Marianas well within the range of possibilities — it is still too early to tell exactly where it will pass through,” the NWS stated. “Additionally, we could see a circulation, perhaps a tropical depression (less than 39 mph), passing by sometime Friday through Sunday.”
