“I honestly was stunned by the news. All my fears, worries, and discomforts of finding a way to pay for college were released that morning. I’m still trying to fathom the fact that I was accepted to my first-choice college with a full scholarship,” said Demapan.
At Stanford, Demapan plans to study pre-medicine and symbolic systems.
The middle child of Maura and Gregorio Demapan, Darren Demapan is currently ranked first in his high school class.
His parents have been very supportive of his academic pursuits, always stressing the importance of performing well in school, being active in extracurricular activities, and striving for higher education.
Darren Demapan is an active member in the National Honor Society and has joined plays hosted by the International Thespian Society.
After school, he spends his time at Oleai Elementary School as an Americorps member.
He is looking forward to studying pre-medicine as well as majoring in Stanford’s unique symbolic systems interdisciplinary program.
After Stanford, he hopes to attend medical school and specialize in neurology.
