Mock trial at Guma Hustisia

Nine teams from Saipan, Tinian, and Rota are participating in this extracurricular program in which team members play roles in contrived trials to learn new skills and vie for an opportunity to travel and compete against the winning teams from other states at the national mock trial tournament in Philadelphia this May.

The public is invited to attend the competition sponsored by the CNMI Bar Association.

It will be held in rounds, at 9 a.m., 12 noon, and 3 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 26, with the championship beginning 8:30 Saturday morning.

Local attorneys will serve as competition judges and evaluators while the CNMI judiciary  will volunteer its facilities and staff members’ time for the annual event.

Mock trial is an academic competition simulating lower-court or Superior Court trials.

Students from different schools receive the same hypothetical court case consisting of the charges and basis of the case, rules that must be followed, and affidavits of each of the testifying or potentially testifying witnesses.
