SENATE President Jude U. Hofschneider and Senate Floor Leader Vinnie Sablan are on personal leave and left the island on Tuesday and Wednesday.
In his off-island notice, Hofschneider said he would be “out of the Commonwealth from Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2022 to Thursday, Sept. 8, 2022.
He said Senate Vice President Justo S. Quitugua will serve as acting Senate president during Hofschneider’s absence. The Senate president did not indicate where he was going.
In his own off-island notice, Sablan said he will be out of the Commonwealth “on personal matters” from Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2022 through Friday, Sept. 9, 2022.” He requested to be excused from any legislative sessions, committee hearings, official functions and other events that may take place during the time he is away.
On Facebook, the NMI Republican Party is inviting CNMI residents in the states to “enjoy a night” with Senator Sablan, the running mate of Gov. Ralph DLG Torres, at JJ’s Island Grindz in San Diego, California on Aug. 20, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. There is no entrance fee, and food and drinks will be served. Local musician Parker Yobei will perform.
